Felted Lily

Stage one in producing a knitted flower ....
  •  I knit a green hollow stem (important that it's threaded with ribbon before felting, or otherwise it will felt to itself and you'll be unable to put a wire through!). I then continued in red with a 3-petal piece.
  •  I knit a second 3-petal piece in red, as the photo above.  The 12" ruler shows the length before felting.
 Stage two ....

  • After felting, the second set of petals fits inside the first, stamen are added to a loop on a length of stiff wire, which is then pushed through the green stem.

Driftwood Christmas Tree

I've been collecting driftwood during the year  from my walks on Filey beach, in the hopes I could make a unique tree to decorate for Christmas. It was a learning curve!
Peter drilled the middle of each branch, which was OK for all but the thinner ones. Some snapped, some he had to do with quite a small hole. I bought a metal net curtain rod, to thread the larger branches, used stiff wire for the thinner ones, AND loads of hot glue! The whole structure was then glued into a log saved from tree pruning in our garden this summer.
I AM really pleased with the end result, but if I make another, I would experiment with "threading" more thinner twigs, so you end up with a much taller tree, suitable for a fairy on the top!
