I was inspired to create pictures of giraffes after a safari holiday in Kenya and Tanzania, and I’ve used various media including mosaic tiles, oils and batik; I’ve also done greetings cards. This batik is framed in a pre-loved frame but I could post just the batik in a postage tube – please email for batik and frame sizes.

Batik is a method of dye-ing and waxing cotton material, starting with the lightest colours first. Thus, I added hot melted wax to any area I wanted to remain white. Next, I dyed areas green for the background and waxed that. Some photos show the process, and also another giraffe batik I was doing at the same time as a commission.
The crackling effect is created at the end by scrunching the material in a final dye. Once everything was dry, I removed the wax with a hot iron (and lots of kitchen roll!).
I've been collecting "special" bottles during the year and now's the time to turn them into festive Christmas decorations.I've added a mosaic pattern to each one and put a string of LED lights inside. Using 100% pure new wool for the majority of this scarf makes it really warm and cosy. It would fit either adult or child, and has a loop at the back for keeping it in place. I'm hoping there is enough wool left for mittens and a Shaun the Sheep hat. Watch this space! This gecko is the latest addition to the "handy hooks" group. It is made on a preformed MDF base, and then glued onto an up-cycled board. There are two mirror plates at the top so it can be screwed to a wall (or you could add a cord for hanging like a picture). The mosaic cacti are glued directly onto the board.
For sale at £28 post free to UK, this would make a unique Christmas or birthday present.
