I designed this mosaic picture based on Scarborough highlights - the castle, the lighthouse, beach chalets, sand, sea and seagull. It's the town where I live. I used MDF as a base. Photos show progress, the grouted piece and finally the picture framed for hanging on a wall. It is signed.

Iris silk painting

 

Iris silk painting - The Blue Lagoon – original, signed, framed

This is my own design of irises using silk paints onto Habico silk. I’d been commissioned to paint irises with a turquoise background (as one of the pictures) and I decided to paint another with the irises themselves in turquoise shades.  The first task is to do the design onto freezer paper, and then to iron that onto the silk. Next a gutta outline is needed to stop the silk paint “bleeding” into the background. The speckling is created using salt which draws out specks of colour. The title “Blue Lagoon” is reminiscent of a holiday in Malta. After removing the freezer paper, the finished painting has been stretched over mount board.
