Icons of Whitby Mosaic

This is a new venture in mosaics for me, from further up the coastline to my home town of Scarborough.

WHITBY.

I've tried to incorporate some of the main highlights of a visit to Whitby - but not necessarily in the right places! The view through the Whale bones to the south side of the estuary. The 199 steps to the Abbey and Church. The lighthouse at the end of the pier. Fortunes' smoke house, with two potential kippers swimming in the harbour. A fishing boat and a couple of quaint old town houses.

It is mounted in a 12" square Hobbycraft deep shadow box frame, without the glass.

Inspired by Stan and Hilda's Murial

I'm delighted to say this is now hung in Scarborough Art Gallery's East Coast Open Exhibition until September 3rd 2023.

I'm more than delighted to say, "It has SOLD!"

Many thanks to the buyer and to the team at the art gallery for a superb exhibition. It's well worth a visit. So much variety and so much talent on show.

8.9.23 I've just received a lovely email from a member of the public viewing the exhibition

Dear Margaret,

I just wanted to offer my praise for your mosaic in the recent Scarborough Open exhibition. I thought the work skilful, and the inspiration witty.  I haven't watched 'Corrie' for some years, but was always a fan, and even appeared on it a couple of times when I was an actor. The first time was in 1984, and I was delighted to be greeted on my first day by Jean Alexander and Betty Driver, who were relaxed and funny - making my first-day nerves almost vanish. All in all, the main cast were lovely, and it was a joy to glimpse the different sets - including of course Stan and Hilda's little room...

Best wishes, Paul
