Coming in to land

I've done this acrylic painting on a Dahler canvas board as a prototype piece before attempting the same image as a mosaic. I wanted to see how complicated it would be to create the wing feathers from mosaic tiles - I'm not sure that I'd be successful doing that, so the project is on the back burner for now!

Mosaic Puffins with hooks

PUFFIN MOSAIC keyholder, original design, new wood board with hooks signed

Here's the latest addition to my "Handy Hooks" series.

This mosaic has been made on a new wooden bread board. To make the puffins I used mainly vitreous craft mosaic tiles. On the back I’ve added a hook for hanging the picture, and on the front, there is a double hook so the picture could be used for keys, a towel, a coat etc.

UPDATE sold - but email if you'd like me to do one for you.

2 Silk Paintings - Irises and Poppies

These have been painted on pure silk with silk paints. I did the design on freezer paper with a black marker pen and I ironed the paper onto the silk. Next, I used gutta (black and silver) for the outlines - gutta acts as a barrier to stop the silk paint bleeding into another area. I painted the flowers quickly to avoid hard edges, and to encourage blending of colours. If you add salt to an area at this stage it pulls out some of the colour. Once the paint was dry, I removed the freezer paper and ironed the silk on the back to set the colours.
I’ve stretched the silk over white card as a temporary measure until you are ready to mount/frame or just frame them, to suit your own décor.
Approximate measurements, both pictures are the same size ...
24.8”/63.4cm x 10.2”/26cm

"Fish and Chips for Tea?" mosaic

Original Mosaic, seaside theme, framed, signed. “Fish and Chips for Tea?”

This original design is based on Scarborough where I live, with its problem of seagulls stealing fish and chips on the seafront. This is loosely based on Scarborough Headland with the castle in the background.

I’ve used craft mosaic tiles plus broken pottery, glued onto MDF board, which in turn has been glued onto the Perspex surface of a new frame. It will hang on the wall using the manufacturer’s hook at the back – or you could add conventional picture frame hooks and cord.

The photos show stages in progress, the finished picture and one close up showing where I changed the colour of a wing tip with acrylic paint and varnish to make it stand out from the green castle hill – plus a slight manufacturer’s flaw on the gold edge of the new frame.

 All sizes are approximate:

Frame size 44.5cm x 55cm x 2cm (17.5” x 21.5”)

Mosaic size 37cm x 47cm (14.5” x 18.5”)

Weight 3.7kg
