These have been painted on pure silk with silk
paints. I did the design on freezer paper with a black marker pen and I ironed the
paper onto the silk. Next, I used gutta (black and silver) for the outlines -
gutta acts as a barrier to stop the silk paint bleeding into another area. I
painted the flowers quickly to avoid hard edges, and to encourage blending of
colours. If you add salt to an area at this stage it pulls out some of the
colour. Once the paint was dry, I removed the freezer paper and ironed the silk
on the back to set the colours.
I’ve stretched the silk over white card as a temporary measure until you are
ready to mount/frame or just frame them, to suit your own décor.
