A Snapshot of Ayton - mosaic

This is my second larger mosaic - having enjoyed creating a snapshot of Scarborough earlier in the year, I thought I would use the same idea for landmarks in my own village of Ayton. Hence ... the ruins of the castle, Ayton Parish Church and war memorial with poppies, the water mill, the "old" bridge with the River Derwent and the weir. Plus the heron and one of the many mallard ducks. The first photo shows it framed and the others show progress over a few weeks. It will be at the Ayton Art Exhibition next month and I'm hoping it will find a good home.

Ashness Bridge, Borrowdale

I started this at a workshop run by Sue Slack who has a distinctive style in paintings of the North York Moors area. Loving my holidays around Keswick, I chose a photograph of Ashness Bridge as my subject matter. I started by covering the whole canvas in orange acrylic paint, then worked upside down, identifying areas of countryside and painting them with a different base coat.
Next came the detailing, working with the picture the right way up. I loved the technique and I’ll try it again – I have in mind to try working from my photograph of Grange Bridge in the same style.
The painting is currently for sale on eBay - paintingandplants

Giraffes in batik

Following a safari holiday, I’ve been creating "animal memories" using different media. This was inspired by giraffes in the Masai Mara, Kenya – and I’m in the midst of more giraffe pictures with flat topped acacia trees and Mount Kilimanjaro in the background.
More batiks, mosaics, painted wellies, oil paintings ... we came back with some amazing photographs for inspiration!
Some photos show stages in waxing/dye-ing this batik, plus other related artwork. The first batik is currently for sale on eBay - paintingandplants
