KINGFISHER mosaic picture

 

KINGFISHER MOSAIC PICTURE. Original, new, signed.

For my latest painting/crafting, I’ve based my projects on kingfishers – watercolour painting, and welly painting (as the last photo shows), and now a mosaic.

The mosaic uses MDF as a base – 17cm x 23cm; I’ve used a variety of ceramic craft tiles to create the picture.

I’ve used a new IKEA Ribba deep frame – but discarded the glass and swapped the front to the rear. It’s had a coat of white acrylic paint on what is now the front.

This was an experiment, before I do an expensive resin pour to create a river run, using waney edged wood.

The chopping board base looked new (charity shop). I used thicker than normal glass tiles around the edge, and mosaic-ed 3 goldfish (not grouted by choice).

Separately, my husband cut a seagull shape from MDF, to which I added (both sides) mosaic ceramic tiles. I used acrylic paint on the MDF edges. A “next time” thought – the beak didn’t quite work as it’s too wide! I’m not sure how I’d overcome that, so I need to think of a different design. Puffin next!

I grouted the seagull and the surround, making sure there were no places where the resin could leak out. The seagull is glued to a piece of river rock. I added pigment to the clear resin, and it has created a smooth colourful surface.
