OLD AYTON MOSAIC

 

AYTON VILLAGE MOSAIC, new, signed – wall art.

I’ve made this mosaic picture of the old parts of my village – West and East Ayton, near Scarborough.

We have castle ruins, dating back to a manor house in the 15^th century, which fell into disrepair for 200 years, when the Lord of the Manor moved to York.  In 1775, stones from the ruined castle were allegedly used to build the stone bridge between East and West Ayton, to cross the River Derwent.

DERWENT MILL - There has been a mill (but not this one!) in Ayton since the Domesday Book. This mill was built in the 1700s. The river used to flow under the waterwheel.

Then of course, there is the mallard duck. In springtime there are lots of ducks and ducklings.

I did the mosaic on MDF, which, after grouting, I glued onto the outside of a deep frame. I added picture cord for wall hanging.

Approx measurements:

Frame = 18”/46cm x 8.25”/21cm x total depth 1.5”/4cm.

Mosaic itself = 16”/41cm x 6”/16cm
