Stained Glass Iris Mirror

This is a unique item that could fit in any room in your house. The frame itself is pre-loved, and was made by Alex at Picturesque - professional framers in Scarborough. I took the original artwork out of the frame, but kept the glass for this project. Everything else is new.

I made the mirror on a stained-glass course in 2013, but I’ve never used it (I made an owl mirror at the same time, so that’s the one that hangs in my hallway! This one has lived in a drawer for over 20 years). I added brown/gold mosaic craft tiles to the frame, to make a border, which I then grouted. There is a centre piece of mosaic tiles in the middle for support. The mirror is glued on with strong PVA glue.

All measurements are approximate:

Mirror itself 14.5cm x 29.5cm; the stained-glass piece which surrounds the mirror glass 25cm x 40cm; the outside of the frame 35cm x 50cm. Depth 3cm. Weight 2.9kg.

For sale: £40 free UK mainland post, or £35 buyer collect

Fortunes to Flamborough mosaic

UPDATE: Sadly my entry wasn't accepted by the art gallery, but the GOOD NEWS is that it has sold locally. Thanks Dawn.

This is my entry for EAST COAST OPEN, an exhibition for local artists held at Scarborough Art Gallery during the summer. Time will tell if my work is accepted. Fingers crossed for now.

I've made three mosaic pictures of the highlights of the east coast area where I live.

The top mosaic is Whitby, showing the whales bones on the north side, where you can look through to the Abbey and Church, to be visited once you've climbed up the 199 steps. There is a fishing boat and a fish in the harbour, Whitby lighthouse, and the famous FORTUNES smoke house, where kippers are sold.

The middle mosaic shows highlights of Scarborough seafront - the castle on the headland, the lighthouse and beach huts. Of course I couldn't do a picture of Scarborough without including the infamous seagulls, waiting to steal fish and chips!

Further down the coast, between Filey and Bridlington, there are the cliffs at Bempton and Flamborough, where the puffins nest in summer.

Cruise ship art and craft

Saga cruise January - February 2025

Diane, the watercolour teacher, taught us new techniques each session. We did all our pictures using only 3 colours - primary blue, yellow and crimson red.

Loved it!
